It has taken us two years to complete, although many
riffs and lyrics have been bouncing around our heads for
many years. Here are a few notes about some of the songs:
Pink
Flamingo was written about a seedy strip joint in New
Orleans of the same name. Drugs were openly sold over the
bar and the dancers were all prostitutes touting for
business. Most of the girls, once beautiful looked tired and
much older than their age due to their drug addictions,
which kept them tied to the place, but yet they still held
onto their dreams of one day escaping this lifestyle and
living free from a relentless implicit oppression. This song
is about the exploitation of women such as these, and in a
way it is a tribute to them. Of all the places I have visited
in the world the Pink Flamingo bar is one of the saddest -
Ian.
Times as yet to come - how would we
describe this song - an eco-warrior epic? At nearly 8
minutes long we are quite proud of it, and in spite of it
being slightly upbeat, the underlying tone is one of
inevitable disaster, which simply highlights the sad reality
that one way or another the human race is destined to
destroy itself.
Wishing world (live) - is actually a
very dark song although it doesn't come across that way.
It's mainly about where people's minds can go to escape the
traumas in real life. It was recorded live one night and we
like this version because of its rawness and simplicity.
On my Own - as you will guess from the
lyrics of this song, it is about the fear of being left to
die alone. We are all inherently sociable people, and don't
like being alone for long. We need interaction with others,
and this song highlights one of our worst subconscious fears.
